Apple is investing $1 billion in a new campus located Austin, Texas.
The 133-acre Apple campus will be built in North Austin and will have space to welcome 5,000 employees upon its opening. It'll be able to accommodate 15,000 employees in total, however. The campus will be erected less than one mile from the Austin facilities already in Austin and will be a center for jobs in operations, sales, finance, customer support, and more. The expansion, according to Apple, will make it the largest private employer in the city.
"Apple is proud to bring new investment, jobs and opportunity to cities across the United States and to significantly deepen our quarter-century partnership with the city and people of Austin," said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, in a statement.
Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, said the announcement "is a testament to the high-quality workforce and unmatched economic environment that Texas offers."
Apple will also be expanding further elsewhere, adding over 1,000 employees in cities like Seattle, Culver City, and San Diego in the next three years as well as growing ever larger in cities like New York, Boulder, Boston, Portland, OR, and Pittsburgh. The company has already added 6,000 jobs to its US reserves and is looking to create 20,000 more jobs in the company by 2023 – just in case you were looking to work for Apple in the near future.
There's still more money floating around the company's decision to expand, too, as it has announced it will also invest $10 billion in data centers based in the US over the next five years, starting with $4.5 billion this year and next year. In fact, preparations are already underway for its newest center in Waukee, Iowa.
Put simply, Apple is continuing to grow exponentially – so if you've ever wanted a chance to work there, this might open up plenty of options.
