It's the time of year where fighting game circuits for 2018 are coming to a close. Tekken has already crowned its world champion, while Street Fighter V is in line to do the same this coming weekend in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, there's Dragon Ball FighterZ, which isn't quite there yet, but is in the home stretch. On Tuesday, the folks at Red Bull Esports announced its plans to play host to the final event of the inaugural Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour.
The event will be called Red Bull Final Summoning, set to take place at the Majestic Downtown in Los Angeles, CA from January 26-27. As the final event of the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour, the first day of the two-day tournament will host a Last Chance Qualifier. The winner of this tournament will join the Final Top 8, which will play out the next day.
"Since Dragon Ball FighterZ's launch earlier this year, we've seen incredible player growth and enthusiasm," Bandai Namco Senior Brand Manager Wilson Cheng said via press release. "We're thrilled to announce Red Bull Final Summoning in partnership with Red Bull and Twitch and look forward to Los Angeles' Dragon Ball FighterZ Finals event."
The Top 8 is set to consist of seven Saga winners, along with one entrant from the aforementioned Last Chance Qualifier. However, Ryota "Kazunoko" Inoue has won three of the Sagas, the only multi-time Saga winner. Because of those multiple victories, two more slots are open. According to the DBFZ World Tour rules, this means the top three from the Last Chance Qualifier are currently slated to receive the remaining slots. Kazunoko only taking three out of seven Sagas does mean that the gaming public loses out on the lottery scenario that would see the final day unfold with a Best-of-19 Grand Finals, a scenario reserved only in situations where a single player wins all seven Saga events.
The other Saga winners are Dominique "SonicFox" McLean, Goichi "GO1" Kushida, and Eduardo "HookGangGod" Deno. There's still one Saga remaining, with the CouchWarriors Crossup set to take place this weekend from Australia.
