The Kinda Funny Games Showcase ended with some excitement, as well as some controversy. The Walking Dead: The Final Season has been in limbo for quite some time since the sudden closure of Telltale Games. But now with Skybound Games taking over, the Final Season looks to not only be back on track, but it has a January release date all set to go.
Saturday's trailer for The Walking Dead: The Final Season's third episode doesn't go too much into what's gone down this season, but rather acted as an overview of Clementine's journey as a whole. While many felt that the story would end with Telltale's closure, the third episode is now set for a January 15 release date.
This news will undoubtedly come shrouded in controversy. While Skybound announced its takeover of the game's development for the remaining episodes, there has still been a lot of outrage regarding developer compensation and severance on Telltale's end. Skybound had announced its intention to bring back a handful of the game's original developers in a Reddit AMA back in October. However, picking up right where everyone left off while downplaying the human cost of the game's development and developer turmoil is something that is unlikely to go unnoticed.
Nonetheless, it does look like Clementine's journey is all set to resume in January. Look for the game to hit all platforms on January 15, with no further delays on the horizon.
