Another dose of disappointing news for all of you that were hoping to see gaming's most charming bromance. Geoff Keighley will be hosting The Game Awards 2018 tonight, but will be doing so without his bestie Hideo Kojima in attendance. Kojima confirmed his absence with a tweet.
This could be a sneaky pump fake setting up a surprise appearance by Kojima, but that'd be the least surprising surprise ever. Thus, it seems more likely that he genuinely can't make it. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that he won't be at The Game Awards 2018 in spirit via a new trailer for the mysterious Death Stranding.
What do we know about Death Stranding so far? It has an illustrious cast of actors that include Norman Reedus (Kojima's other popular bromance partner), Lindsay Wagner, Troy Baker, Mads Mikkelsen, and others. Film director Guillermo del Toro is also in the game, as revealed in the game's second trailer. It's an open-world action-stealth game with Reddus playing the lead role and focuses on the connection between "life and death." The closest thing we have to an official synopsis comes from one of the game's trailers:
Besieged by death's tide at every turn, Sam Bridges must brave a world utterly transformed by the Death Stranding. Carrying the stranded remnants of the future in his hands, Sam embarks on a journey to reunite the shattered world one step at a time. What is the mystery of the Death Stranding? What will Sam discover on the road ahead? A genre defining gameplay experience holds these answers and more.
