If you picked up Overkill's The Walking Dead and are hungering for additional content, consider your appetite sated with the addition of season 2.
Season 2 adds No Sanctuary, which includes a new mission, a camp NPC, and new items for $8, which the developer announced in an official Steam post. The prices may change for future episodes in Season 2, but if you bought the Standard of Deluxe Edition of the game in the first place, it's free. The rest of Season 2's content, released up until June, will also be free of charge.
But Overkill's The Walking Dead has been seeing some pretty lukewarm reviews here and there, and after seeing "lower than expected sales," publisher Starbreeze has decided to go an alternate route with the game.
After reviewing the game's pricing, Starbreeze and developer Overkill have opted to release a Starter Edition to entice new players at half the cost of the original game. That puts it at $29.99, and you get everything in season 1 with it, to boot. Unfortunately, that means you won't get access to the second season or anything beyond it, and you'll have to buy them separately.
Starter Edition owners can play new episodes, though, if friends who do own the content invite them to games, but they can't use any specific characters or weapons exclusive to that episode or use matchmaking. If you want to play with a friend who already has all these niceties, you might just want to pay half-price for the Starter Edition.
If you haven't been following along with the Overkill's The Walking Dead saga, this is a totally different game than Telltale's vision of the series, and is in fact a multiplayer shooter. It looks pretty gory, but cutting its price point in half was probably a good move for the company. Have you been playing it? What do you think?
