Tim Klauda, the Vice President of Product, Digital Experience at Royal Caribbean Cruises, chatted with Shacknews about how passengers on the massive ship can communicate with the guest-to-guest chat application. The application is pretty simple at this point, but the team is adding different functionality to it over time. This particular application addresses a need that arises when passengers lose connection when sailing out in the open water. Due to that, guest-to-guest messaging was the most requested feature in the ship's app.
Eventually, as the application evolves, passengers will be able to treat the application like a digital assistant where it directs them to their requested items, like "where is a good burger" and such. In the interview, Klauda even teases a future where passengers will be able to request items to be delivered via the app.
The Symphony of the Seas, one of Royal Caribbean's latest ships, is the largest cruise ship in the world. Being such a massive ship, it comes with an equally massive collection of activities, dining options, entertainment, and more:
This year, Symphony of the Seas sails out of a new cruise terminal in Miami, FL. Debuting in May 2019, it will be traveling to a private destination called Perfect Day at CocoCay. The venue will feature the tallest waterslide in North America, a helium air balloon that takes passengers up in the air, and more.
