Tucked away in the south of the Fallout 76 map are a band of heroes known as the Fire Breathers that operate out of the Charleston Fire Department. This crew of do-gooders take on new recruits all the time, provided that they can pass the Fire Breathers’ exam. Players who want to get a perfect score of the exam would do well to prepare ahead of time!
The Fire Breathers exam has seven questions, and for players to progress onto the next stage, they must get all seven questions correct. Before beginning, players can look around the classroom to find the necessary study material that will cover what will be on the test.
Alternatively, there is a cheat sheet located next to an active terminal on a desk. The cheat sheet is a letter from an unknown recruit to someone called Greg.
The answers for the Fire Breathers exam are as follows:
After passing the exam, players will be directed onto the next portion of the Fire Breathers trial, a race around Charleston Capitol Building.
The sprint around the Charleston Capitol Building for the Fire Breathers exam can be difficult if you don’t know where to go. Standing at the starting point, look toward the golden top of the capitol building – the “B” button is on the right-hand side of the building, in the alleyway.
The fastest way from A to B is to drop down from the B button and run along the water-logged track, shooting any enemies that get in the way. It should take only a minute to reach the button. After pressing the B button, immediately turn around and retrace the route.
It should take roughly 2 minutes to complete the race, depending on the Action Points you have and how fast the Action Points recharge. Remember to not be over encumbered when attempting the race, as you will not be able to sprint and it will take considerably longer.
The final part of the Fire Breathers exam for new recruits is to head into the Belching Betty mine, reach the lowest point of the mine, set off the alarm, and make it back out. There is no time limit here, so take your time exploring – there are a lot of valuable items down the mine.
The real challenge comes after hitting the alarm as the mine will swarm with enemies that must be dispatched lest you get overrun. Kite them around the catwalks and stairs, being sure to kill them efficiently. Retrace your steps back to the entrance and then back to the Charleston Fire Department where you must speak with the robot to complete the Fire Breathers exam.
Becoming a Fire Breather in Fallout 76 is one of the first steps to unlocking better quests that reward better loot, but the first challenge is passing the exam. The written exam consists of seven questions that must all be answered correctly, the time trial is a sprint around the capitol, and the final test involves trekking deep within a dangerous mine. The last two tests are pretty easy once the Fire Breathers exam is passed!
