The first trailer for the upcoming live-action Detective Pikachu movie starring Ryan Reynolds is online now.
The official title is Pokemon Detective Pikachu, to be exact, and the first-ever live-action Pokemon flick follows 21-year-old Tim Goodman as he attempts to get to the bottom of where his private eye father Harry Goodman has gone missing to. It's based on the Detective Pikachu game of the same name for Nintendo 3DS. Tim has no idea where to start when it comes to tracking down his dad. Luckily, he's got Detective Pikachu at his side to figure it all out. It appears this Pikachu is special, though, because he can talk. Unfortunately, Tim is the only one who can understand him.
The movie features a wide variety of Pokemon, each rendered in a more "realistic" style that makes Pikachu himself look more like a soulless teddy bear and the rest of the movie's Pokemon appear as Dollar General versions of their normal animated selves. The trailer showcases Jigglypuff, Mr. Mime, Psyduck, Charizard, and plenty of others, just to name a few. Reynolds, in an attempt to make every role Deadpool, delivers plenty of attempts at jokes.
The movie is set to debut in theaters on May 10, 2019. If you can't bear to watch the trailer because it either horrifies or enrages you, our own Ozzie Mejia has put together a trailer breakdown instead that tells you everything you need to know.
