The train keeps rolling for Epic Games' hit battle royale. After launching in a new region, Fortnite has reached 8.3 million concurrent players. To give a bit of perspective, that massive number is more than the concurrent players for all Steam games combined.
VG24/7 reported the milestone, which comes on the back of Fortnite's launch in South Korea this week. The Epic Games spokesperson for the region, Sung Chul Park, shared the 8.3 million number and the publication verified the news twice.
South Korea has a strong esports presence and Epic Games likely wants to tap into that, so we'll have to see what sort of Fortnite Battle Royale events the company organizes as they attempt to keep the local community engaged. Epic was valued at close to $15 billion last month, but this launch should boost the numbers a bit.
For the Fortnite players looking forward to some new content, a recent leak teased the potential arrival of a flying vehicle called the Bumble. There are no flying vehicles in Fortnite currently, beyond the AI battle bus that drops players into the conflict, and this type of addition will add another major layer to the battle royale experience. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode features flying vehicles, but such a thing isn't found in PUBG. We'll have to wait just a bit longer to see if this leak is the real deal. Stay tuned to Shacknews for additional updates.
