Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka's legendary series may be coming to our television screens in a different way. Via anonymous sources, a publication has learned that a TV series based on The Legend of Zelda is being discussed and Adi Shankar, the executive producer behind Netflix's Castlevania series, is being courted for the producer role.
TheWrap reported that Adi Shankar, who also served as producer on Bodied and executive produced Lone Survivor, is in talks to produce the Zelda series, but a Nintendo spokesperson offered up no comment on the news. Specifically, "We have nothing to announce on this topic." In 2015, there were rumors of a live-action Zelda series being developed at Netflix, but it is unclear if this project stemmed from that or if it actually existed at all.
Shankar, via his Instagram, also shared that "The success of Castlevania created this opportunity" as the caption for an image with text stating he'd official reveal the "iconic Japanese gaming company" that he's working with to adapt a franchise into a TV series. That official reveal should happen on November 16, 2018, but, with TheWrap's story published, things could be moved around.
There's no word on whether this new The Legend of Zelda series will be on Netflix, like Shankar's Castlevania series, but it would be an ideal home alongside the upcoming Netflix original Witcher series. It's also not yet known if this series will be live-action or animated, but let the fan-casting being. Chatty, who would you have cast as or voice Link and Zelda in a potential TV series?
