Trading is the life blood of Fallout 76, as it allows players to earn more bottle caps and expand their inventory of weapons, armor, and aid. The trading system is a bit obtuse at the beginning of the game, so learning how it works can be a little difficult, but it is essential to survival.
Beginning a trade attempt in Fallout 76 requires two things: a willing buyer or seller and an item to buy or sell. The better your goods, the more likely another player will want to purchase them – if the price is right. Similarly, finding the item you want to buy can take some time, especially if players are spread out. In saying this, trading with a co-op partner is a good idea, as you will be looting different items along your journey.
Once you find a player who wants to buy or sell and you have an item you want to sell or buy, you can begin trading.
These steps will result in an item or items being offered for sale to the other player. If the other player has an item to sell to you this will allow you to see these items in their inventory. The following steps will finalize the trade.
Getting used to pulling the right trigger to interact with the other player’s offered items will take a moment to get used to, but it will quickly become second nature. Before trading, be sure to set an agreed-upon price for the goods, lest the trading descend into chaos.
While trading might not get you out of a gunfight, it is an excellent way to earn bottle caps in Fallout 76. Take the time to create items that people might need at various stages of their playthrough. Stimpaks are always a priority, as area reliable weapons and armor. As you approach the late game, creating unique and specialized weapons is a great way to earn a bit of extra caps.
