There are many ways to lose your hat in Red Dead Redemption 2. Players will experience one of these methods early, but it’s likely that you’ll find Arthur without his bucket several times throughout his journey. If you find yourself sans hat in RDR2, here are a few ways that you can get it back.

There are three ways to find your hat in Red Dead Redemption 2, the first of which is the long and painful way that I took. You can return to places you’ve recently visited, checking the ground and floor to see if it fell off your head in the middle of a fight. This method can be quite tedious, although I will give it high points for immersion.
The second way to get your hat back in Red Dead Redemption 2 is to visit a Wardrobe. You can find one by your bed at whichever camp you’re staying at, or you can visit a hotel and use the Wardrobe there. You can cycle through all your clothing and customize Arthur Morgan the way you wish when you do this. Might as well take a fashion pass on yourself while you’re there to get your hat back, right?
The final way to get your hat back in Red Dead Redemption 2 is remarkably simple, although it does require your horse. Either on your horse or next to your horse, bring up the Weapon Wheel with L1/LB/Tab, then navigate to Horse menu using the R1/RB/R button. You’ll see a wheel with some items, one of which is your hat. If you've stored more than one hat on your horse you can cycle through them and choose your favorite. If your horse is too far away, though, you won’t be able to get your hat back until you’re near the animal, find a Wardrobe, or go scouring the ground near the location you think you lost it.
