Microsoft recently hosted an earnings conference call to discuss the company's quarter one earnings for the 2019 fiscal year. In addition to reporting a 44 percent growth to gaming revenue when compared to the previous year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also dropped an interesting bit of news on PC gamers by revealing that the company would soon bring Xbox Games Pass functionality to Windows PCs.
The $10/month Xbox Games Pass subscription service allows Xbox players to gain instant access to a library of games both old and new, with titles like Rocket League and recent release Forza Horizon 4 being noteworthy examples. Allowing PC players to access the Games Pass library makes the Xbox One a particularly attractive option, should a time come when PC gamers feel like purchasing a home console.
Of course, some games are already cross-compatible between Xbox One and PC — they're called Play Anywhere titles, and Forza Horizon 4 carries the rare distinction of being both a Games Pass and a Play Anywhere title, meaning PC gamers can essentially play the game for two weeks entirely for free. However, assuming Xbox Games Pass gets full Windows PC compatibility, that window of opportunity will open up even wider.
Current details on when Xbox and PC players can expect Games Pass functionality to land on personal computers remains slim, but as far as can be told, the deal is definitely happening. Until then, be sure to keep it tuned right here to Shacknews for future updates.
