The Torchlight formula is about to get an injection of multiplayer fun in Torchlight Frontiers, the upcoming online dungeon crawler from the crew at Echtra Games. Shacknews recently had a chance to speak with Tyler Thompson, Project Lead on Torchlight Frontiers, to learn more about the game, including some of the mini-games players can expect, the possibility of a Switch port, and more about the game's new set of hero classes.
"We actually re-thought and created a whole new set of classes. [...] The big thing to realize about Torchlight classes is they're not kind of the middle-of-the-dartboard; they're not your wizards and warriors, they're always something a little funky and a little bit different.
"The two that we're showing here at the demo [are] the Dustmage, which balances light and dark magic together to make [himself or herself] more powerful, and the Forge, which is a big robot with a chest cannon that pops out and shoots monsters."
Of course, Shacknews had to ask the big question: is Torchlight Frontiers coming to Nintendo Switch? On that front, Thompson had this to say:
"We've been getting asked that a lot at the show, [... but] we have not decided on what we're going to do there; we're still in discussions about it. But we are based on Unreal Engine 4, so it [wouldn't be] a massive technical challenge for us."
Torchlight Frontiers is slated to release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PCs sometime in 2019. For more great videos, including games convention coverage and developer interviews, be sure to check out Shacknews and GamerHub.tv over on YouTube.
