Sony Missing The Mark

10
According to stories at The Register and News.com, the PlayStation 2 is still way behind schedule in the US. As you may remember, Sony had initially said that it would ship 2 million PS2's by year's end. Due to manufacturing difficulties, this number was lowered to 1.3 million by Christmas. The plan was to start with 500,000 in October and ship 100,000 each week to make those numbers. Well, if you believed that then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you :-). Analysts yesterday said that out of the 900,000 that should have shipped by now, only between 600,000 - 700,000 have actually shipped.

This news hurts EA the most, who is currently being downgraded by stock analysts since they based most of their earnings reports on assumptions that Sony would actually ship a decent amount of systems.
