Things are looking good for Treyarch's latest entry in the Black Ops sseries of Call of Duty games. The combination of excitement for the game's shift to multiplayer-only, the industry-wide shift to digital consumption over physical copies, and the debut of the series on Battle.net for PC players has resulted in a milestone for Activision. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has delivered the biggest launch day in Activision history for digital sales.
“Black Ops 4 is an incredible game, and the community’s response to it has been amazing. We have shattered multiple digital day one sales records, and the number of people who connected online on day one to play has grown year on year,” said Rob Kostich, Call of Duty EVP and GM, in a press release. “But probably the most important thing is that the community is having so much fun across Multiplayer, Zombies and Blackout. We are so incredibly thankful for the community’s trust and support. This is just the beginning, it’s going to be an incredible journey with Black Ops 4.”
The count for this milestone is based on collective PC, PS4, and Xbox One digital sales of the game on the first day of availability worldwide. This also marks a growth from last year's release of Call of Duty: World War 2 regarding the amount of people playing online and may signal a change for future Call of Duty games from other studios as well.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Eschewing a single-player campaign, the new shooter features three flavors of multiplayer gameplay: PvP, Blackout battle royale, and Zombies.
