It might seem a little counter-intuitive, but playing retro video games on modern hardware is just plain fun. With that said, there's always a little bit of discomfort involved with using current-gen controllers to play console classics. Fortunately, Nintendo has provided a way for players to enjoy the suite of classic games made available through the Nintendo Switch Online service with brand new, mostly true-to-form NES-styled controllers.
As revealed in today's September 2018 Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo will soon be offering the Nintendo Entertainment System controllers for use with the Nintendo Switch. As far as we can tell, they're virtually identically to the old-school NES controllers, save for their wireless functionality and charging system, which allows the NES-styled controllers to dock with Nintendo Switch systems.
The new Nintendo Entertainment System Switch controllers will become available for pre-order starting next Tuesday, September 18, and will be available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members. They'll run for the suggested retail price of $59.99, and will include two separate NES-styled controllers per package. Nintendo Switch fans can place their pre-orders by heading over to the Nintendo website.
