The excellent Alan Wake from Remedy Entertainment is getting its fair due. No, it's not getting another game (though it deserves one). It's getting a live-action series, though, which is about the best we can hope for at this point. And you know what? That sounds pretty good to me!
It sounds like an especially good idea because it probably won't be on The CW (let's hope so, anyway) and it's coming from Peter Calloway, Legion's showrunner, who is also writing the series in addition. Legion has been a wild trip, so it might turn out that the Alan Wake series has similar quirks.
Remedy Entertainment is also signed on along with the project, with creator Sam Lake helming the show as its executive producer. That all bodes especially well, as the team plans to "work closely" with Sam. "This is his baby," says Contradiction Films' Tomas Harlan, in an interview with Variety.
“Alan Wake was basically a TV series that was put into a game,” said Harlan. “That was Sam [Lake’s] vision. It was influenced by The Twilight Zone, Secret Window, Hitchcock, Northern Exposure, a lot of U.S. television.
Hopefully this will give us more of the Alan Wake lore we've been craving, especially since 2012's Alan Wake's American Nightmare was hardly the follow-up the game deserved. It was nowhere near the influential and exciting project the original became. Perhaps this series is meant to test the waters, and perhaps reveal the Alan Wake 2 project that was, while shelved, on the minds of Remedy's elite. It's an excellent IP, and we deserve more of it.
