When Diablo 3 first made the transition from PC to home consoles it breathed new life into the title. While the game had done well on its traditional platform, something really clicked when it hit the home console market. But since its console launch, a lot has changed in the video game world, including Nintendo launching the Switch. So why not double down on the console love and put out DIablo 3 on the Switch?
Fortunately, that’s exactly what Blizzard is doing with Diablo 3 this December. While at PAX West 2018 I got a chance to go hands-on with a special build put together for the event. The Switch version handles pretty much the same as the other controller-based consoles, but there will be some special extras for it such as the Ganondorf armor, Zelda Triforce Painting, and Cucco companion that will be included in this edition.
Along with the special accouterments, the Switch version of Diablo 3 will also include every expansion released for the game so far. There is one interesting new feature that will be exclusive to switch and that’s the ability to use Amiibos once a day to spawn special creatures outside of the hub town that will drop rare items once defeated. There are no details on what kind of creatures will and at this point there are no plans to include any other Amiibo functions like special costumes or weapons but the functionality is still interesting.
Diablo 3 was already great on consoles and adding the portability of the Switch is definitely an enticing feature. Players will be able to take the latest edition of Diablo 3 for a spin when it launches on the Nintendo Switch on December 21.
