THQ Nordic adds Kingdoms of Amalur to its growing stable of IPs

The ink has barely dried on THQ Nordic's acquisition of the classic FPS series TimeSplitters and the publisher is already making another significant move. Revealed today, THQ Nordic has acquires Kingdoms of Amalur from 38 Studios, who's owner, former baseball player Curt Schilling, has been dealing with financial troubles.

The report from Eurogamer also reveals that the acquisition includes the rights to Copernicus, a game that aimed to expand the Amalur universe into a MMO. It's been in development limbo ever since 38 Studios and Big Huge Games closed, but it isn't certain at this time if THQ Nordic has plans to revive the title. If the company revived the Kingdoms of Amalur series and it is received really well, it would make sense to move forward with the MMO as well.

THQ Nordic had a strong presence at PAX West 2018, showing titles like Darksiders 3 and the new original IP Biomutant. This latest move is just one in many that are positioning THQ Nordic as an even stronger force in the gaming industry. The revival of quality franchises seems to be a consistent theme, as the acquisition of Koch Media and subsequently Deep Silver is tied into the upcoming launch of Shenmue 3.
