Upon completing the Destiny 2: Forsaken campaign, players will receive a Broken Awoken Talisman from Petra Venj as a reward for services rendered – but it’s totally broken. Fixing the talisman, with the help of Spider, is a lengthy process, but well worth it for players looking to venture into the Dreaming City.

Key of Light and Darkness quest

The item received from Petra Venj at the end of the Destiny 2: Forsaken campaign is the Broken Awoken Talisman, a device necessary for reaching the Dreaming City. Speaking with Spider begins the Key of Light and Darkness quest, a multi-step quest that culminates in players unlocking a new Patrol zone to explore: the Dreaming City. As of Beyond Light, this can also be collected from the Quest Archive in the Tower.

Broken Awoken Talisman

Collection the remaining talisman fragments found within the Lost Sectors of Tangled Shore.

This first step requires players clear three specific Lost Sectors around the Tangled Shore. Each point refers to one of the five Lost Sectors. Clear the following lost sectors to turn the talisman into the Inert Awoken Talisman. At this point, return to Spider to begin the next step.

  • In an old Corsair hideout – Jetsam of Saturn: Shipyward AWO-43
  • In the heart of Spider’s web – Thieves’ Landing, West: The Empty Tank
  • In a rare green place – Four-Horn Gulch: Trapper's Cave

Mended Awoken Talisman

Defeat Taken to imbue the talisman with the Darkness you need to open the doorway to the Dreaming City. Vanguard intel indicates that you can find Taken on Io and in the Sludge in the EDZ, as well as in the Strike “Lake of Shadows” and in Gambit.

This next step requires players fix the talisman by harnessing the darkness found within the Taken. The quickest way to get the necessary Taken kills is to run through the Strike on the EDZ, Lake of Shadows, a few times. Completing this awards the Imbalanced Awoken Talisman. Begin the next step by speaking with Spider.

Semi-Charged Awoken Talisman

Absorb Darkness from the tainted Ether in the Public Event “Ether Harvest”, located in Four-Horn Gulch. Defeat three Chieftains and complete the event to progress.

This next one is self-explanatory, simply complete the Public Event “Ether Harvest” while ensuring to kill three Chieftains. This Public Event has a chance at spawning in the Four-Horn Gulch on the eastern side of the Tangled Shore. Completing this awards the Balanced Awoken Talisman. Return to Spider once this is completed.

Balanced Awoken Talisman

A talisman imbued with Darkness and your own innate Light. It proves you are worthy to enter the Dreaming City and walk among the Awoken. Keep hold of it in case you ever need to declare yourself to an Awoken warrior.

With the previous steps completed, players will receive the Balanced Awoken Talisman, a key that will allow travel to the Dreaming City.

Beyond the Watchtower – Awakening

This is the final part of the Key of Light and Darkness quest as completing this grants total access to the Dreaming City. The mission, Awakening, is part of the Beyond the Watchtower campaign, and has a recommended Power of 500, so players should take some time to improve their gear.

After reaching the Dreaming City, progress through the path, taking down enemies and jumping between dimensions. Meet Petra Venj in the center of the temple-like structure and then head outside to clear the Scorn. Collect the Offering by killing Elikaa, Sworn to Vengeance, and return it to Petra to complete the mission.

Now that full access to the Dreaming City has been granted, players can come and go as they please, and spend some time uncovering the many secrets of the Dreaming City. Be sure to check out the Shacknews Destiny 2 Complete Strategy Guide for more walkthroughs, weapon breakdowns, and tips.
