After spending years in pre-production purgatory, the highly-anticipated Witcher series is slowly emerging from the darkness. The project got a huge shot in the arm this morning after the announcement that the main character Geralt of Rivia has been cast. Most known for his recent portrayals of Superman in the DC Universe movies and a solid run on the Showtime’s The Tudors, Henry Cavill will be assuming the role of Geralt for the upcoming Netflix Witcher series.
News of a Netflix-produced Witcher series first emerged more than a year ago. The series will be a direct adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher novels rather than that of the popular video game adaptations produced by CD Projekt Red. The show will be run by screenwriter and producer Lauren S. Hissrich, who previously worked on Netflix’s Daredevil adaptation. Earlier this year, Hissrich confirmed that the series would be eight episodes and would be filmed in Eastern Europe.

Cavill is a self-professed fan of the series and recently posted mockups of himself as Geralt on his Instagram page. We will keep you updated as more details on Netflix’s Witcher series emerge.
