Relic Entertainment is mainly known for its critically-acclaimed real-time strategy games. In 2011, the developer took somewhat of a detour from its bread-and-butter and went from delivering Warhammer 40,000 RTS games to delivering a Warhammer 40,000 FPS. That game was Space Marine. Those who missed this period of history or missed out on Space Marine when it first released will now have a chance to check it out for themselves, because right now, it's available for free.
The 100 percent discount comes courtesy of The Humble Store, which is offering up Space Marine free of charge until Saturday, September 1 at 10AM PT or whenever their supply of Steam key runs out. In order to claim their free copy, users will simply need to subscribe to the Humble Bundle newsletter. The game normally retails for $29.99.
Shacknews reviewed Space Marine back when it released in 2011, back in an era of unscored reviews. Here's what we had to say about it:
"Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a lot of fun when it comes to its arena-based battles thanks to a good variety of weapons and the most deft implementation of melee combat in a shooter that I've experienced in recent memory. The bloody single-player campaign is an Ork-chopping good time, and multiplayer can be a lot of fun as well, provided you can grind out the first few levels without getting too frustrated. I highly recommend checking it out for yourself. If not for you, then 'For the Emperor!'"
