Most of the buzz surrounding NVIDIA's latest RTX graphics cards is based on ray tracing, a rendering technique that boasts impressive detail to light, shadows, and reflections. Normally reserved for high-end rendering systems used in movie production, NVIDIA's new technology is able to render ray traced graphics in real time, meaning players can enjoy the highest possible graphical fidelity — a new high bar for the entire industry, as far as we can tell.
NVIDIA has several ray tracing demonstrations to help fans realize the power of the technology, and we've featured one of them above. For a more in-depth look at ray tracing and the capabilities of NVIDIA RTX, be sure to check out the ray tracing guide featured on the GeForce website.
We're still waiting to learn more about NVIDIA RTX real-time ray tracing technology, and that includes performance benchmarks for the company's upcoming RTX graphics cards. NVIDIA likely has plans to unveil more details during Gamescom 2018, but we do know that the new RTX cards are expected to begin shipping on September 20.
