Video games are an inherently audiovisual experience, and while many developers out in the wild are doing their best to push visual and graphical fidelity to the extreme, others are working their magic to create an engaging audio experience. Part of that charm, at least in the modern era of gaming, includes voice acting for major game characters — and as video game voice actors go, Roger Craig Smith is one of the most experienced talents in the business. Shacknews had a chance to speak with Smith at San Diego Comic Con 2018 to learn more about his recent roles and get an insider look at his performance process.
Much of the conversation was spent on Smith's own "process" of getting ready for acting, which for him primarily involves getting a good night's sleep and not pounding shots of whiskey. He also stressed the importance of maintaining proper health, especially when going to loud events like SDCC 2018 where attendees could wind up stressing their vocal cords.
Smith's career in video games voice acting is extensive: most notable, he's provided the voice of Chris Redfield in Resident Evil titles after 2009 and Ezio Auditore da Firenze in Assassin's Creed titles. Beyond these, he's provided voices in everything from Red Dead Redemption to Resonance of Fate, Sonic Colors, Epic Mickey, Hearthstone, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, and even lent his talents to Bruce Wayne in Batman: Arkham Origins.
