Nickelodeon is throwing its hat into the ring when it comes to developing a video game-related series. It's hard at work on an upcoming augmented reality series known as Meet the Voxels (a working title, for right now). The original series sprung from the mind of the senior vice president of Nickelodeon's Entertainment Lab himself, Chris Young, and it stands as a bit of a milestone for the network.
Meet the Voxels will be the network's first usage of "virtual cinema" tech, with real-time face and body motion capture, and it's all about showing viewers the world behind a video game. A generic video game, of course, but a game nonetheless. It stars a family of five, including a washed-up classic game character father, "street fighter" mother, bubble-popping Maude, laser-tagging Hunter, and the youngest child Cody, who isn't the star of his own game yet, apparently.
Interestingly enough, the show will be created in a game engine, though Nickelodeon hasn't specified which just yet, and there will be special VR and AR companion episodes to go along with it. It's going to be intriguing, but probably not very funny, as is the case with most of Nick's modern programming. But it's not Cartoon Network, at least, which would have immediately made more Teen Titans marathons. Thank goodness for small miracles.
