AMD Cans Mustang

12

TechWeb has the news that AMD has decided to can the Mustang processor for now. This CPU which was supposed to have to 2 Mb of cache when released, has been removed from the AMD roadmap in favor of their Palomino processor which will be the successor to the Athlon. The Mustang would have been used to get into the server market but the AMD people think that the AMD-760 MP chipset with its dual-processor capability will suffice. The Palomino and Morgan will be based on the Athlon core featuring microarchitectural improvements that are supposed to improve performance over the original core.
