The ability to play video games with your friends through the internet is a luxury we sometimes take for granted, but with the ever-increasing potential of online gaming, a lot of people are beginning to ask, “what about cross platform?” Now that Monster Hunter World is on the way, and with Microsoft leading the charge with their Play Anywhere program, gamers are asking a similar question: is Monster Hunter World cross platform?

Unfortunately, Monster Hunter World is not going to support cross platform play between PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. This means that in order to play the cooperative and multiplayer aspects of Monster Hunter World with your friends, you will need to play on the same platform, whether that’s PC, Xbox One, or PlayStation 4. While this is disappointing, it’s not really too surprising given that very few games that release on all platforms feature any amount of cross platform functionality.
In an interview with Arekkz Gaming during E3 2017, community managers Socks and Yuri Araujo addressed cross platform play. In the video above, Yuri comments that while cross platform play isn’t available, Monster Hunter World will feature cross-region play for the first time, meaning you can play with your friends that live overseas.
It’s surprising that in this day and age players are still segregated based on the platform they choose to play on, even if a game releases on all platforms. For now though, it seems that Monster Hunter World is another game that won’t let the Montagues and Capulets of the gaming world play with one another.
Now that you know Monster Hunter World is not cross platform, consider giving a look to our Monster Hunter World strategy guide. You'll find lots of guides to help you in-game, even if you can't play cross platform.
