Damn... lightning hit somewhere and came in through the DSL line. DSL modem exploded all over the floor, fried a router and the network card in my server. Also killed one of my raspberry pi's that ran Plex client. but my biggest item was my 2012 Panasonic UT60 plasma TV is dead. It has survived several lightning strikes but this one finally killed it.
I need a new TV. I guess the OLED's are pretty good?

14 wowsJust thought I'd drop by here to say I'm the inventor of Nanite. It's not bullshit. I've been researching this for a decade and working on it for 3+ years. Been a proud day. Phone's been blowing up but I thought I'd stop by the shack and say hi.

14 wowsThe bigger picture is a virus with a 95% recovery rate, not something that's wiping out a quarter of the population.
I'm all for being cautious for everyone's sake, but we're going a little overboard right now. -
14 wowsNearly died this week.
Had chest pains on Saturday and went into the hospital. They wanted to run some dye through my heart to make sure nothing was blocked. Im 37 so of course nothing was going to be blocked.
Wrong, 99% blocked artery. If I wouldn't have listened to my body and didn't go in I would have suffered The Widowmaker heart attack. The same one that almost killed Kevin Smith. They were able to clean it out and put a stint in to get me back to 100%. If I would have waited I would have probably died within a week.
If you have chest pain GO TO THE DOCTOR. -

13 wowsOh the rest of us get constant updates because he bitches to us about her constantly on the phone but seems incapable of ending the relationship.
Our friend group always asks "so what's the latest drama with them?" when we all get together because there's always something and it's always wild.
Examples:
She was once jealous and upset because he took pictures of a horse at the fair. She thought he was taking pictures of the horse's butt because he thought it was sexy. She's still mad about it 10 years later. (She doesn't get over things she's mad about.)
He hardly ever sees his mom and brother, even though they live close by, because she doesn't like them because she's jealous. She hysterically cried and it was a huge fight years ago when they went to his mom's for Christmas one year because she counted the number of photos he'd taken on his phone of her vs his mom and there were more photos of his mom.
They're joined at the hip and literally do everything together. She likes a routine of spending SIX HOURS every Saturday grocery shopping, so they're always busy on Saturday afternoons at the grocery store. She spent 30 minutes standing in front of blueberries on sale trying to decide which brand / ones / if she wanted them.
He was good friends with another couple for years. At some point, she decided the wife was being flirty with him or something so they're never allowed to hang out with this couple again. He secretly got together with them to catch up while gf was out of town for work recently. He has to do normal things "in secret" on a frequent basis. It's totally healthy.
She has a huge, old, busted, heavy, hideous (according to him) desk in their extra room that's her office. It's a small room and it takes up a huge amount of space. She decided she wanted a new desk so they spent a whole day rearranging the room, taking it apart, and loading it in his truck. She then got emotional and decided she wanted to keep it. So she made him take it out and put everything in the room back the way it was. That was their entire Sunday.
Some guy became his friend and would text him or want to hang out. She got jealous and was convinced this guy liked him, so that was the end of that friendship.
The two of them were out at a crowded club when some woman walks by him and some of her long hair gets tangled in a button of his shirt. He apologizes and stops to untangle her hair. His gf is pissed because she thinks he was flirting so that became a big fight that he untangled the hair.
We convinced him to start seeing a therapist for himself and a couple's therapist together. She got upset about the first therapist he picked for himself because she thought he was only picking her because she was attractive, so he had to find a different therapist. Their couple's therapist they've been seeing for a few months recently referred them to an "intensive couple's therapy specialist." Apparently that starts soon? -
13 wowsI just completed the most difficult challenge for me personally in any video game I’ve ever played. Beat Baldur’s Gate 3 on Honor Mode on PS5. Honor Mode is Tactician with bosses having extra legendary mechanics and delete save on party wipe. It was quite the intense journey. Highly recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already. Gives you the achievement and gold plated dice skin and the ability to post about it on the Shack.

13 wowsSo my old assistant three years ago here in PR got weirder and weirder and suddenly called me crying and quit one weekend day. Then as we were transitioning all her accounts and contacts over the next few days she suddenly stopped responding. I thought she might have harmed herself..so I cold called her brother and found out she was in a mental hospital back in CT. I gave her a bunch of money and was like hey man you need to get back on your feet please if we can do anything to help we're rooting for ya. She wrote us a letter a year later in a second stay in a hospital that she apologizes for her behavior, she was strung out on alcohol / pills . The crazy thing is she was lobbying us at the end to be our nanny and my wife and I saw signs of very erratic behavior so we gently told her she is best at her current role.
Anyway fast forward to today when I googled her name -

Police: Norwalk woman who set her own car on fire at Stamford gas station charged with arson
Stamford police Sgt. Damein Rosa said the footage then shows Monsalve returning to the car to find that the pump had gotten stuck while filling the car, causing the tank to overflow with gas. Monsalve is then seen on camera taking the nozzle out of the gas tank as it is still pumping and pouring a trail of gasoline, Rosa said.
Monsalve then went back into the gas station, purchased a lighter using her credit card, and returned to her car, according to Rosa. She used the new lighter to ignite the trail of gasoline, which ultimately caused the undercarriage of her car to catch fire, Rosa said.
Rosa said the gas station clerk and an off-duty firefighter who saw the fire helped to extinguish it before it spread any further than the car.
Monsalve, who allegedly fled the scene on foot, was caught by police about 10 minutes afterward. When asked by police why she started the fire, she told them that she was “just fed up with people” in general, Rosa said.

Poor girl I don't think it's going to end well for her :( What's crazy is we left our baby alone with her in the early months. Oof. -
13 wowsYeah, so this is crazy. My parents develop houses now in their retirement (because that's a business you totally start in your mid 70's). They were excavating a lot for a new home last week when this happened.

So the police think this Gombert guy killed both Robin and Josette back in '94/'95.
Here's where it gets kinda weird.
The police arrested two local teenagers for the murder of Josette back in '96. They were convicted in separate trials. In 2012 one of the guys was awarded a second trial based on a technicality. I was on that jury. I mention this all the time here like Toby and the Scranton Strangler. We convicted the guy based on testimony from someone who supposedly saw him and the other person kill Josette.
A few years ago the second conviction was overturned after the third jury was presented evidence that this Gombert guy was likely the real killer.
It gets a tiny bit weirder. Josette's body (not the girl my parents found) was discovered by a hunter in the woods near my current house. What a weird bunch of circumstances, eh? -

In a new groundbreaking development, researchers at Aston University have achieved a internet’s data transmission speed that is a staggering 4.5 million times faster than the average home broadband. This unprecedented rate is the fastest ever recorded, achieved by utilizing specific new wavelength bands that have not been previously used in fiber optic systems.
As part of an international collaboration, the team transferred data at a rate of 301 terabits per second, or 301,000,000 megabits per second, using a single, standard optical fiber.
