61 infsYou know, everyone says 'stay out of it, say out of it stay out of it'. I'll tell you a story.
Back story 1. My future sister in law is a horrid excuse for a human being. Yes, thats a bit of hyperbole, shes not Josef Stalin, but in the context of a family, shes worthless. Shes my age (27), still lives at home, still 'goes to school' but hasn't registered for classes in years, is an attention whore, has this whole 'ill fart on you because im a tomboy' schitck that stopped being cute after she turned 12, isn't very intelligent at all, and is abrasive to be abrasive in that annoying teenager way.
2. My fiance is a bit of a doorknob when it comes to her family. Her mother has cancer, so she never ever ever wants to say no, or upset her beacuse shes terrified of making her mothers already shitty life worse. She doesnt live with her family, yet shes over there all the time to help out and cook and take care of things. While managing a job, grad school, and an internship.
So when we got married, sister decided she was going to be the maid of honor. Not because shes CLOSE with my fiance, infact total opposite. SIL constantly talks behind her back, calls her dirty things to her face, has made my lady cry at family gatherings on more than one occasion. Everyone else in the family ALSO decided that she was going to be the maid of honor, because OF COURSE SHE WAS THATS HER SISTER YOU HAVE TO.
So things got worse and worse and worse till my fiance had spent more of our time being engaged crying and stressing out than she spent it being happy about the fucking thing. One morning, after the sister snuk over to my house after i left for work (she actually sat in her car in the parkinglot across the street from my bldg) and proceeded to yell and scream in my own house about 'how dare you not pick me if it wasnt for me you'd be fucking nothing' and the like, i snapped.
I went over to her mother/sister's house in the middle of the work day and told them in one of those scary calm tip of the rage voices 'This is how things are going to be. (fiance) is MY fucking family now. (sister) is never allowed to step foot in my fucking house ever again. You (mother) will shut the flying fuck up about this wedding and FOLLOW (fiance's) WORDS TO THE FUCKING T. If ANYONE MAKES MY FUCKING WIFE CRY AGAIN YOU WILL FUCKING ANSWER TO ME. You're all acting like horrid fucks, and you need to get your fucking shit together.'
I left. Couple days later i got a call from her mother with an 'im sorry'. Sister acted like nothing ever happened, but shes out of the wedding and hasn't said shit about it since. And now my wife hasn't cried about this wedding in the last 7 months. I've never seen her this happy in all the time we've been together.
tl:dr There comes a point where its not just a 'thats not my family butt out of it' issue. Shes YOUR family now. Protect your own. -
