If you're not applying for a loan anytime soon, you should probably go ahead and add security freezes at each of the credit bureaus -- Experian, Transunion, & Equifax -- to make it harder for thieves to impersonate you & apply for credit in your name.
The process is very straightforward: create an account online with each bureau, then go to their "Security Freeze page & click a button. Creating the account is the most time-consuming process & it didn't take more than 3-5 minutes for any given site. Here's the info:
