Propaganda Team-kills Turok Team-kill Achievement

Jan 28, 2008 1:33pm CST tags: Propaganda Games, Turok
A controversial achievement award earned by killing a teammate in online play will now be removed from Propaganda Games' upcoming action title Turok, according to Wired.

The "Grab Bag" achievement, which involves killing "at least 1 creature, 1 enemy, 1 teammate, and yourself in the same round of a public match," will now be changed to include only enemy targets and suicide by a mandatory release-day patch.

Gamers were shocked last November when the award was announced, with many protesting a mechanic that would have rewarded players for unsportsmanlike play. Propaganda eventually responded to the outcry, pledging to remove the achievement if it became a problem.

Turok will ship to stores February 5, on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC port following later this year.

The Video Game Release List of 1/27 - 2/2

Jan 27, 2008 1:50pm CST tags: Propaganda Games, Games: PC & Console, Release List

While this week may not have as many titles as some others, that's no reason to ignore it! In fact, this week--which I have affectionately dubbed "Bomberman Week"--is working hard to make sure we receive new games for the PC, Wii, Nintendo DS, and PSP.

Check out the full list for a closer look at this week's releases, or just hit one of the box arts below. Barring any unforeseen delays, most North American retailers should have the listed games by Wednesday, January 30.

Note: Certain retailers are listing the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions of Propaganda Games' Turok as arriving this week, though it is officially slated to hit February 5.

Turok Demo On Foreign Xbox Live Marketplaces (Updated)

Jan 15, 2008 7:05am CST tags: Xbox Live Marketplace, Propaganda Games, Turok

Update: The Turok demo is not currently available in North America, Xbox Live programming director Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has clarified. This restriction may be due to the demo's inclusion in the latest issue of Future Publishing's Official Xbox Magazine.

Original Story: Newly available on the Xbox Live Marketplace this morning is a demo for Turok, the dinosaur shooter from Propaganda Games. The single-player demo is a 1.17GB download.

The new Turok will arrive January 29 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a PC release following later.

Turok to Maim Dinosaurs, Slit Throats on PC

Nov 02, 2007 10:40am CST tags: Propaganda Games, Games: PC & Console, Aspyr
Propaganda Games' reimagining of the Turok franchise will hit the PC next spring courtesy of Aspyr Studios, according to a statement today by Turok license owner Touchstone.

The series, which was made popular by the now-defunct Acclaim, is now being given new life with Propaganda's take. Players will be back in the jungles, executing stealth knife kills and bulls-eyeing dinos with Turok's trusty bow and arrow.

"It's definitely on the radar as far as something that we're looking at," said Propaganda co-founder Josh Holmes to Shacknews in an interview earlier this week. "The engine that this runs on is a highly modified version of the Unreal 3 Engine, and the Unreal 3 Engine supports Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, so it seems like an obvious platform that would make sense for the game."

Turok hits stores February 5 on PS3 and Xbox 360, with the Aspyr port making sense later that spring.

Interview: Propaganda's Josh Holmes on Turok

Oct 30, 2007 4:08pm CST tags: Propaganda Games, Turok, Interview
Remember when you were in kindergarten and dinosaurs were awesome? And then stuff like Jurassic Park and Turok came out, and T-rexes and raptors ruled again. Propaganda Games' upcoming reimagining of the Turok franchise aims to bring your dino fantasies flooding back, and I spoke with studio manager Josh Holmes to find out if they'll succeed. Read on if you like dinosaurs so much you want to stab them in the brain.
The things we really loved about it was, it was the first one to really take you out into what felt like a lush expansive outdoor world that was there for you to explore. It sort of deviated from that corridor crawler Doom clone that had been the standard for what a first person shooter was. Although, a lot of that, if you go back and look at it today, was through the use of fog planes and basically like a 6-foot draw distance.

Turok Gets Hollywood Voice Actor Ensemble

Oct 02, 2007 12:59pm CST tags: Bethesda, Ensemble, Propaganda Games, Turok
If nothing else, Propaganda Games' reimagining of the Turok franchise will have a dinosauric load of Hollywood talent when it comes out next year, including acting/voice acting vets Ron Perlman--the "Hellboy" star who will be narrating Bethesda's upcoming Fallout 3--and Powers Boothe of HBO's "Deadwood" and "Sin City" fame. These two talents will be joined by 12 others announced by Touchstone today in voicing the game's coterie of characters.

The title role of Turok goes to Native American TV actor Gregory Norman Cruz, most recently in TNT's new fall series "Saving Grace." Joining Cruz as the rest of Whiskey Company--the dino hunter's squadmates--are Timothy Olyphant of the upcoming film adaptation of Io Interactive's Hitman franchise (as Cowboy), the aforementioned Perlman as Slade, Donnie Wahlberg as Shepard, William Fichtner as Logan, Mark Rolston as Cole, Chris Judge as Jericho, Lombardo Boyar as Gonzales, Gideon Emery as Reese, Josh Gomez as Parker, Jon Curry as Foster, Jason Harris as Carter, and Steve Van Wormer as Henderson.

On the villainy side of things, Boothe will voice war criminal Roland Kane, who was Turok's ex-mentor, with Sean Donnellan voicing henchman Grimes. Here's hoping the final product is able to match the quality of the voice casting when Turok ships to retail for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on February 5 next year.

NAMEPropaganda Games' ultra-violent dinosaur hunting first person shooter Turok (PS3, X360) will release worldwide on February 5, 2008. The date was announced at publisher Disney Interactive Studio's E3 2007 press conference.

Following the adventures of space adventurer Joseph Turok, the game picks up as the explorer crash lands on an alien planet filled with dinosaurs. A trailer of the game was shown, which highlighted Turok snapping a raptor's back. A number of other brutal attacks, such as stabbing an enemy in the eye with a knife, are available to players as well.

"Looks awesome," Shacknews editor Carlos Bergfeld wrote during his live coverage of the event. In addition to numerous screenshots, we also have two gameplay movies for your visual enjoyment.

Thomas O. Staggs Walt Disney Co. just can't wait to be king of the video game business.

The media giant will seek to triple their current $100 million yearly investment in the video game industry, Disney executive Thomas O. Staggs (pictured left) said on Friday. "Over the next five years or so we are ramping up to about a pace of $350 million per year in video game investment, principally consoles and hand-helds," he stated, according to the LA Times.

  • Karraker: MS' HD video does "disservice" to Core owners

    [ps3] [xbox360]

Following yesterday's announcements by Microsoft that Xbox 360 owners will be able to buy and rent HD television episodes and movies via Xbox Live Marketplace, Sony Computer Entertainment America PR chief Dave Karraker has slammed the service. "I think they are doing a disservice to their consumer base because they are ignoring all those people who bought the Core system," said Karraker. "We would never segregate or shut out any of our consumers from our entertainment experience because they didn't buy the top of the line system." He pointed out that while both PlayStation 3 models, priced at $499 and $599, include a hard drive, while Microsoft's $299 Xbox 360 Core unit does not.

Meanwhile, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios head Phil Harrison spoke to Sony-sanctioned blog ThreeSpeech about PS3's own HD capabilities, such as its included Blu-ray Disc drive and HDMI output. Harrison admitted that Blu-ray has caused production problems for Sony, but is a necessary obstacle to overcome. "Today, it looks like a very difficult situation--but in the weeks, months and years to come, this will pale into zero," said Harrison. "Yes, we have overreached in production of the Blu-Ray component--I can't deny that. But that's the price you pay for adopting brand new, leading-edge technologies that will be future proof. We will resolve those issues--we are already catching up." Harrison restated Sony's goal to ship 6 million PS3 units by the end of its fiscal year in March 2007.

  • Novadrome racing to Xbox Live Arcade

    [xbox360]

Though Stainless Games' Novadrome was mentioned in yesterday's announcement of upcoming Xbox Live Arcade games, publisher Buena Vista Games today officially announced the game as coming to Xbox 360 this holiday season. Novadrome is a sci-fi vehicle combat game featuring exaggerated physics and over the top weapons in a demolition derby setting.

As the Isle of Wight, England-based team behind the infamous combat racers Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now, Stainless has some experience in the genre. "We took our renowned experience of making intense vehicle combat games and put it into an extremely addictive game--'Novadrome'," said managing director Patrick Buckland. The game features two dozen vehicles and fifteen arenas, as well as online and offline gameplay modes.

Novadrome is expected to be released for Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade by the end of 2006.

  • ESRB reveals additional Virtual Console games

    [nintendo]

As the organization that rates content in all major game releases in North America, the ESRB can be a prime source for determining upcoming unannounced games. In September, the ESRB's website divulged several Sega Genesis games eventually confirmed to be Wii Virtual Console launch titles, and now the site has what appears to be titles from the second wave of planned VC games. The following NES and SNES titles have been designated "E for Everyone:"

    - Hogan's Alley (NES)
    - Ice Hockey (NES)
    - Kid Icarus (NES)
    - Kirby's Adventure (NES)
    - PilotWings (SNES)
    - Pro Wrestling (NES)
    - Punch-Out (NES)
    - Wild Gunman (NES)

No release dates were given for the game. Nintendo has stated its intention to provide at least ten Virtual Console games per month after the system's initial VC launch lineup of 30 titles.

  • Buena Vista Games falls for Nintendo

    [nintendo] [ds]

Publisher Buena Vista Games has rapidly been raising its profile in the video game industry in recent months. The Disney subsidiary recently picked up Climax's racing dev studio, signed a publishing deal with Tetsuya Mizuguchi's studio Q Entertainment, picked up the rights to the Turok franchise, and recently picked up Propaganda Games and Avalanche Software. Now, BVG has announced that it has formed Fall Line Studio, dedicated entirely to developing games for Nintendo DS and Wii. It will create both new intellectual properties as well as games based on established Disney-owned franchises.

Fall Line is headed up by Scott Novis, former general manager of Rainbow Studios (Cars, ATV Offroad Fury, Motocross Madness). It will specialize in "small-team, creative projects," acting as a sister studio to Avalanche Software. Both companies are based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

No specific projects were announced in today's press release.

  • GameStop vaguely reveals Wii online preorders

    [nintendo]

Online retailer GameStop.com has put up a preliminary information page regarding Wii preorders, its brick and mortar counterpart already having filled its quotas. GameStop.com and sister company EBGames.com will apparently be selling preorders for Nintendo's upcoming system only in a single mandatory bundle at an unspecified price "under $699." As far as what that "under $699" will net you, the company has not yet shared any details beyond the basic Wii unit, but presumably it will include several games and accessories such as extra controllers. They better figure it out soon, as the site lists the start date for preorders as this Thursday, November 9. Keep checking back until then for further details.

GameStop.com's PS3 preorder page has even less information, lacking both a date and potential price range.

Furthermore, the company announced that the game will be a launch title for PlayStation 3 when the machine goes on sale this November in North America, and next March in Europe.

    [ps2] [xbox] [xbox360] [psp]

BVG also owns the recently formed Propaganda Games, working on Turok (working title) (PS3, X360), as well as veteran developer Avalanche Software, responsible for the Tak series. It is inclear how the upcoming Climax Racing acquisition will affect the future of the MotoGP and ATV Offroad Fury franchises.

"The acquisition of Climax Racing aligns perfectly with our strategic and geographic goals by allowing us to both reach into new genres and new markets for creative talent," said BVG senior VP and GM Graham Hopper. "Adding Climax Racing to our creative family will provide an additional catalyst for our continued growth in the video games market." Terms of the deal, which is expected to close next month, were not disclosed.

However, speaking to IGN, the company confirmed that the game is still in the works but, as was becoming more and more obvious, will not be a Wii launch title. No new release period was given.
