Although Dragon Age 2 won't hit store shelves until March 2011, BioWare has already revealed the first downloadable content for the upcoming RPG. "The Exiled Prince" DLC will be available for free with the "Signature Edition" of Dragon Age 2, which is offered as a free upgrade to gamers who pre-order the game before January 12.

The DLC offers players up a new quest and character (named Sebastian Vael) with its roots deeply seeded in a revenge plot. If you decide to skip the upgraded version, the downloadable content will be available for $7 (560MS Points) following the Dragon Age 2's release.

In October, when BioWare revealed the "Signature Edition" upgrade offer, the dev promised it would include $20 worth of additional content. According to EA's store page, the edition also brings with it four bonus weapons and a digital copy of the game's official soundtrack. Dragon Age 2 will also offer new game purchasers with additional content, much like the Cerberus Network did with Mass Effect 2.

Xav de Matos was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Or we can not pre-order it, so we aren't encouraging this kind of bullshit. And make no mistake, it is bullshit.

you pretend like DLC isn't planned into a schedule or doesn't take a ton of work and QA to make. do you think anyone says "oh the game's out! WHEW. okay, now what's next?!" schedules are made years in advance.

If you can't notice the trend that publishers are milking your tits and fleecing your fleece, than god so help you. I remember just in the year of 2004, major year for gaming, people didn't even know what the acronym DLC was. That's how rare milking was back then. Now, instead of putting the DLC in the original game in the first place, they wait and give it to you in a bunch of side dishes, making the games ultimately $100 on average, or a game with less content then what it should have. Don't say that we are mad they're making money, because they are ALREADY making MILLIONS.

Yes, greed, is a disease. Centralization of power is, too.

explain how day 1 DLC is justifiable.

I understand that DLC has it's own production schedule and all that, but when it's available the same day the fucking game comes out, why is it not part of the game?

Just to clarify, I actually, don't have a problem with day 1 DLC to combat piracy/used game sales. As long as everyone who purchases the game legitimately gets the code, it's fine.

You are saying this guy is mentally ill because he is tired of being whacked over the head with redundant DLCs that are only created to milk the customer even more?

No this is complete out of the box. What they did what take some stuff out of it and sell it as 'additional content'.

I am ok with DLC but this day 1 stuff screams of suits coming up with 'ideas' on coming up with extra revenue apart from making a damn good game.
