Call of Duty: Black Ops Getting More Patches for PC, Consoles; Care Package Glitch in the Crosshairs

14
Call of Duty: Black Ops is getting a few more multiplayer-focused patches, according to the game's official forum. Patches for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions are all inbound to attack issues like a rabid pack of dogs after an eleven-man killstreak.

On the PC side, the notorious care package glitch is said to be disabled in the new wave of fixes. Using the glitch, players have been able to spawn an infinite number of care package, SAM turret, and sentry gun killstreak rewards--making the online experience understandably unbearable at times. Also on the menu is the correction of map specific clipping tricks players have been able to utilize to shoot through surfaces, improvements to spawning, and more.

On the Xbox 360 and PS3, the list of upcoming fixes is sizable, with upgrades to the spawn system, a render delay on player indicators that appear when controlling the Gunship, Valkyrie Rocket and Chopper Gunner, prevention of an exploit that allowed players to keep customized classes and killstreaks after prestige and more.

Console patches will go into "Phase 3" submissions today, meaning it might take a little while for them to be cleared for release. A time frame for the PC patch has not been revealed.

2 pc patches vs 8 on the 360?

no surprise looking at the numbers... 5% of overall sales are for PC,WII and DS.

What sucks is the longer the PC version remains broken, the less sales they are going to get. No one recommends a game as fucked as this one. People actively shout to stay away from it.

The playerbase itself has already dropped from 100k to 20k on PC, because so many people are having problems and would rather wait for a patch than even try to play this mess.

What's broken about it? I haven't played online yet (been waiting for a PC COD:BLOPS Shackbattle announcement, but nothing yet), but the Combat Training mode is pretty good. I think it's the "performance sucks on 2-core systems" problem that's holding a lot of people back.

If you can play it, you should just starting playing online. You know the stuff you unlock in combat training is totally separate from actually leveling up in ranked matches, right? I don't think enough shackers even have the game to get a battle going anyway so there's no reason to wait. Someone here had a server but could never get it to show up in the browser.

Performance doesn't just suck on dual core systems either even though that's all they have acknowledged publicly in the upcoming patch notes. I have a Q8200 and it runs like absolute shit in W7, and the only game I own which runs so bad that I can tell immediately that something is busted. Looking in forums there's no rhyme or reason to the system config and the severe performance loss and stuttering many people are getting on a wide range of setups.

I also found out that you can't prestige the Combat Training ranking; I don't know if it can even be reset; I'd like to set everything to zero to start ranking up again.

Isn't it standard for big companies not to care about word of mouth, although every marketing expert will tell you it is the strongest tool for advertising a product?

Yeah I guess this is true. I stopped playing it after I noticed what an awful performance I get.
MW2 runs like a charm though which is why I went back to playing that again. I'll start playing Black Ops after they fix it... if they fix it. And if they don't, this will be the last Treyarch title I bought.

Yeah, it's my fault they suck at coding over there and should have had a PC beta long before release instead of beta testing us right not.

I apologize, Treyarch & Activision. Please forgive me.

this is the stupidest thing you've ever posted.

if a game is released on a handful of platforms, it should work on all of them.

Its a circle jerk. The reason PC sales are down, is because they don't spend a lot of time on that port, and the reason they down spend time on that port is because the sales are down.

I haven't bought this game yet. I'm waiting for the PC version to be patched to a point that I believe its worth the money to purchase it. Granted, the 2 patches have been pretty quick since release, so it shows that at least they are interested in fixing it.

I'll probably pick it up soon.
