Stuart Black Working on WW2 Shooter at New Studio

Sniper: Ghost Warrior developer and publisher City Interactive today announced that it has appointed Black creator Stuart Black creative director of a new English internal development studio, working on a new World War 2 shooter.

Black described the unannounced game as "an exciting new story-driven WW2 shooter that will emphasise high adventure in a genre that's become bogged down in reverence and historical accuracy." It's a bit of a mystifying statement, considering that WW2 video games often feature everything from everyman super-soldiers to magic Nazis.

City Interactive announced in October that it had licensed CryEngine 3, the engine powering Crysis 2, for two new, unannounced first-person shooters. It seems almost inevitable that this confirmed-but-unannounced shooter is one of them, especially considering that City CEO Marek Tyminski describes Black as "the right person" to "smartly implement" its recent licensing agreements with "some of the most advance video game engines currently available." Should this be the case, the shooter could theoretically support PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases--CryEngine 3's platforms.

Stuart Black left recently left Codemasters, where he was creative director on Bodycount, an over-the-top shooter described as a "spiritual successor" to Black.
