Microsoft: Over 2.5 Million Kinect Sensors Sold
"We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand," said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday."
The sales increase is due to "strong demand over the Black Friday weekend" and these numbers are worldwide. Specific regions were not discussed, though one unofficial report from Japan detailed a possible "rough start" with estimations that Kinect is selling at 25% the rate of PlayStation Move in the country.

Yeah but 2.5m on a 1/2 a billion marketing front-loaded budget (+ black friday). Gratz to them on it - but I don't think that is the start of a OMG SALES UP chart line for the year sales of the product. I think its a big bubble at the begining that after Christmas won't pick up again. Which is why they spent on the $$$ on marketing - if they don't trick people to buy it during these first 4 months - then they won't get enough installed base and no decent devs are going to sign up for it (aside from Dance Central which was a natural fit). Once people start seeing them used in Gamestop in Feb. - the shine is going to be off it.

What did people expect? It's brand new tech using gaming concepts in a brand new way. You will get the initial onslaught of shovelware. I mean jeez , you guys know about the Wii right?
My stance on this is just as it was on the Wii. Great tech. But not my cup of tea. Maybe if I ever play all the other games I want to play and have nothing to do, I would get it.
I do love the modding projects I have seen so far. Really cool stuff.

I bought a Kinect day or two after launch, didn't plan on it but $150 so wth.... My friends and I played for 6 hours the first night... This is definitely just something fun, grab some beers and laugh your ass off :)
It's only $150!!! I bought a WII for my GF and after buying all the damn accessories I was at like $250.

well it wasn't that hard to predict. most of the early presentations were faked and a lot of the first impressions at E3 talked about how it was laggy, not ready for primetime. Yet somehow in the mist of all this we remained curious to it's promise and most of us core gamers still want to get one (just waiting for a reason to get one). How Microsoft managed to do that I don't know; is it the because of the technology or the hype or its actually good, i dunno. But since its release, most people who have it seem to report that its a lot of fun.
