Capcom Reports Sales Up, Profits Down in First-Half of Fiscal Year 2010
In the report, Capcom noted that sales increased to 4.7 percent during the fiscal year (which ends on March 31, 2011), while net profit dropped 39.9 percent.
According to Capcom, Dead Rising 2's delay to the end of the six-month reporting period (concluding September 30, 2010), accounts for some of the stagnation of operating income during this time, along with Lost Planet 2's "underperformance" at retail.
In the period, net sales reached ¥40.7 billion ($501M), due to the continued success of Super Street Fighter IV and the initial sales of Dead Rising 2. The success of these titles, Capcom says, helped the company surpass sales of the same period last year.
Also pushing Capcom beyond last year was the "steady growth" of the PC and Xbox 360-exclusive Monster Hunter Frontier Online, the "smash hit" PSP-exclusive Monster Hunter spin-off Monhan Nikki Pokapoka Airu Mura, and Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes for the PS3 and Wii.
Taking the 39.9 percent downturn into account--totaling a net profit of ¥1.7B ($22M)--Capcom forecasts it will end this fiscal year with sales of ¥91 billion ($1.1B), achieving a total net income of ¥6.5 billion ($80M).
The report did not announce when pre-orders for Lost Planet 3 would be made available or how poorly that game may do.
