3DMark 11 'High Temple' Benchmark Test Revealed
Futuremark has revealed another of the high-tech tests in its PC benchmarking suite 3DM
To those wondering about the DirectX 11 tech behind the shinies, 3DMark explains that "Volumetric lighting illuminates the scene with bright sunlight filtering through the dense jungle. Tessellation is used to add rich detail to the temple carvings and the jungle foliage. Post processing delivers depth of field and other lens effects." So there you go.
Thanks to sponsorship deals--note the Antec-branded truck, and the msi subs in the 'Deep Sea' test--Futuremark will offer a free version of 3D Mark 11 with unlimited tests. The previous edition, 3DMark Vantage, could only be run once for free.
3DMark 11 was once slated to launch in the third quarter of 2010 but is now due simply "later this year." The High Temple test will be on show at BlizzCon this weekend.

Oh crap, now I got even more tempted to abandon my GTX 260.

I'm so out of it with my 8800 GT I don't even care anymore. I'm happy to drop out of the race and play my GOG.com version of Baldur's Gate or Minecraft. I honestly don't mind if the focus shifts from graphics excellence to focusing on the gameplay and the design.. it's been stuck on bigger better graphics for too long in my opinion.
