Atari to Revive Star Raiders on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in 'Early 2011' [Updated]
[Original Story] Atari's classic space combat sim, Star Raiders, is being revived as a current generation title for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
Born out of the Atari 2600 era, Star Raiders combined the strategic elements of galaxy map with the intense fighting of a shooter. Helming the reboot is Incinerator Studios, the former internal THQ shop behind games based on the movie Cars.
Set to launch in "early 2011," Star Raiders will retain the original concepts found in the 1979 classic but will however be bolstered by a current generation graphics, online co-op and competitive modes, and the ability to customize spaceships.
In an interview with GameSpot, Incinerator Studios president Joel Goodman revealed that Star Raiders will also feature ship transformations, "Where the combat vehicle changes its flight characteristics on the fly."
If you're interested in learning more about Star Raiders, a version of the original game is available on Microsoft's Game Room platform. Or you can just sit there quietly and wait for it to release in 2011. A trailer for the game, courtesy of GameSpot, is available after the break.
(Note: GameStop video is not supported in the GameCenter App.)

I don't even remember Star Raiders, but my family had it for 2600. All I remember is that paper overlay for the 3 x 4 touchpad. I guess that was the "crappy 2600 version" compared to the 400/800 version.
