With this year's independent gaming festival less than two weeks away, IndieCade has announced that Double Fine's Tim Schafer will be the first recipient of a newly-created "Honorary Trailblazer Award for Lifetime Achievement."

Schafer will receive the award during IndieCade's Award Show on October 8. As previously reported, Shacknews will be also be presenting an award for the most "Fun/Compelling" game at this year's show, hosted by Levar Burton.

"Holy cow. I had no idea I was so old. Is this because of the grey in my beard? Well, it's an honor and I'm happy that it's coming from a great organization like Indiecade," said Schafer, upon hearing the news.

Known best for beloved titles like The Secret of Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle, and Psychonauts, Schafer's made gaming news headlines quite a bit lately. He recently announced Double Fine's shift to smaller, independently published projects (like the upcoming XBLA and PSN downloadable, Costume Quest), engaged in a war of words with Activision's CEO, Bobby Kotick, and rehired former Monkey Island collaborator (and DeathSpank devloper), Ron Gilbert, to work on a new project.
