Battlefield 2142 Patch 1.51 Enters Public Beta Testing
Patch 1.51 brings four new maps along with "numerous client and server side fixes including enhanced account security." As a bonus, it also gives all players the booster pack 'Northern Strike,' which adds new maps, vehicles, a mode and other goodies.
The first beta version of patch 1.51 is a 1.35GB download available on FileShack. If your BF2142 isn't already updated to version 1.50, you'll want to snag that patch too.
"If the servers hold up to the stress test this version will become the release version," DICE explains. "We'll try to reduce the need to do a reinstall should that change."

This game was seriously underrated. I enjoyed the hell out of it when it first came out. I actually have it sitting on my shelf and have been tempted numerous times over the past two weeks to re-install it again.

BF2142 had all the tweaks and polish that the glorious BF2 lacked in a few ways. DICE learned a lot from BF2 and 2142 is evidence of those lessons.
Northern Strike has some great maps -- I paid $10 for it when it came out and never regretted it. One map had this incredible cliffside assault in APC pods at the beginning. Truly one of a kind.

QW had some great bits and I would love to see them come out with a follow-up effort, but imo BF2142 was a much more complete experience. It'd be hard for me to say I liked it better than BF2 as I have so many great memories from BF2 (and its mods), but I think that BF2142 is a superior game.
I will be very excited to try this out and I hope this sparks a resurgence in players for a while at least. Now where did I put that physical media ...
