Borderlands PC Getting Steamworks for Achievements [Updated]
[Original Story] Though no announcement or update has been made, it seems like Steamworks integration could be added to Borderlands. A list of achievements was spotted in one of our user's Steam library, which Shacknews can confirm. The achievements match the console version's offering.
It is unclear if other Steamworks features will be utilized beyond achievements or if the DRM method for the game's DLC, which currently uses SecuROM, will be changed to Steamworks. It is also unclear if this will affect all copies of Borderlands or just copies purchased through Steam.
Shacknews has asked 2K Games for a clarification on the matter and will update you with any response.

It's not that bad, I mean it's a little bad and I would like more tweaks available like holding crouch to crouch instead of toggle, and toggling zoom instead of holding, fov adjustability, ect. Some of it is fixable through configs, other stuff isn't, but it's definitely not "horrible". The game is still crazy fun but it would've been nice to have it more polished on pc.

Yeah, it ran well, played great, but no way in hell I would have paid more then the 15$ I paid in the summer sale.
I'm a PC gamer. I want games on a level of SC2 or Mordern Warfare1 when I pay 60 bucks for it. Games like that are released in 4 year cycles (or even longer). Everything else is usually UnrealTech bullshit.
Like Borderlands. It's like using an console emulater to play on PC. I mean, I did that with Nintendo games and stuff back when I was a kid. But now? Don't need that shit anymore...

Yeah, I did the hold crouch INI tweak, but I passed on the toggle zoom INI hack because people reported it messes with turrets and stuff. Odd that they got it backwards, in general you need zoom/iron sights to be toggled and crouch to be held.
Vietcong in that regard still had the best control scheme I've ever seen in the game and I'm just totally amazed nobody else copied it ever since. There were no predetermined hold/toggle buttons for actions and the game just determined by itself on the fly if you wanted to hold or toggle and would go with it. So for examble if you tapped iron sights/zoom button the game would interpret it as toggle and you have to tap it again to get out of zoom, but if you held it for more than half a second or so then the game would instantly zoom out the moment you let it go, good for quick one shotters. The best of both worlds and this control scheme worked for almost anything in the game, like running, crouching, zooming, ect.-

I left the black on, as it was part of their "intended feel" of the game. I don't know how turning it off make the game LESS jaggety, unless you then turned on AA?
I never used either of the crouch/zoom things, but I messed around with the FOV thing. Finally had to turn it off since it was just too unsettling. That Vietcong thing sounds really good, but I'd still like it to be a choice between all three. Like, toggle/hold/intelligent.-
I found that it didn't change the feel of the game one bit but made the image a lot cleaner. Compare these two shots from the Borderlands wiki page:
Black outline on with AA:

Black outline off with AA:

Pay attention to things around the the sky map and how black outline really stands out with jaggies against the sky. This is especially bad in Frystown when you look at the flags hanging by the entrance cus all you see pretty much is a ton of black jaggies.-
In above two images, comapre the pipe outline in bottom left corner, look at the flags by entrance, look at the roof where the smoke is coming out and to the left, llok at the rear iron sight of a shotgun and how much more jaggety it is on right bottom with outlines. Look slightly to the right of the house and how jaggety that little shack is because of outlines. Generally anywhere where you have a light surface a black outline will really stand out. Both of those images are with 16XQAA.

These shot are from BD Wiki located here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/PC_Tweaks
They say the only difference is the outline and both images have AA. The difference in color you're seeing is the night/day cycle kicking in.

The game certainly has some problems. Crappy collision detection, allot of loading screens and some stupid enemys are the most annoying. But overall I like the game pretty well. A good time for a few mates. I think they would do themselves a favor to make it alittle shorter. Have you level faster. It can drag on and lets face it, with so many games to play with your friends this game isn't likely to be the first choice. I'm going through this right now as I recently lost my level 41 character and have to start all over.
