Electronic Arts and 38 Studios have finally revealed details on its upcoming title, an "open-world" single-player RPG in a "mysterious and magical new fantasy world created by New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore." Previously codenamed Project Mercury, the RPG now sports the title Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and is planned for release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
Although the title will be developed by Big Huge Games, which was acquired by 38 Studios from THQ last year, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has some big names attached to its vision. In a development "leadership" role is Ken Rolston, lead designer of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion while the art of Spawn-creator Todd McFarlane brings Amalur "to life."
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is planned for release in the fall of 2011. Additional details for the "graphically stimulating action combat experience" and a game "cinematic" debut is expected on July 22, when Salvatore, Rolston, McFarlane, and 38 Studios' Curt Schilling take the stage during for a panel discussion at the 2010 Comic-Con.
