[Update: 11:54am] Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb tells Shacknews that the Destination Arcade application will work beyond the August 18 expiry for users who download it during the Summer of Arcade promotion. "If you have downloaded it, it will continue to work," he told us via email.

[Update: 7/13/2010 at 11:10am] Major Nelson has updated his post regarding the delay telling readers the Destination Arcade application will only be available during the duration of the Summer of Arcade Promotion.

"My understanding is that it will only be available during the Summer of Arcade. After that, you will not be able to use it," Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb wrote in the comments of his post. It looks like our dreams of an organized Arcade Marketplace will expire with the Summer of Arcade on August 18.

[Original Story] The launch of the Xbox Live Arcade content browser 'Destination Arcade' has been delayed by one week until July 21, Microsoft's Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb has revealed, supposedly to line up with the launch of its Summer of Arcade promotion.

The "recommendation engine & visual browser app" offers a new way to browse the XBLA download store, boasting "the ability to sort by price, community rating, and more!"

Destination Arcade will still only be available in the US, as far as Microsoft is willing to say. "If I learn of any plans for other regions," says Hyrb, "I'll be sure to let you know."

Because it saves them the time and trouble of translating all the text to those "other" languages. Or did you forget that over 23% of Canadians speak French?
