Capcom Document Outlines 2011 Fiscal Strategy

Capcom made $23.5 million less money in 2010 than it did in 2009 and as such, it might be time for a new business strategy. Enter documents distributed to investors and spotted by Joystiq, Capcom is ready to change up its gameplan.

The documents lay out two major strategies:

  • "Enlarge product lineup through reorganization and improved efficiency of development activities"
  • "Strengthen the online game business, which has much growth potential"
Within the first strategy, Capcom calls for faster releases from its Japanese studios by leveraging outsourced assistance and existing intellectual properties. To the second point, expect to see the company target the Asian PC audience and begin operations in China. Additionally, Capcom will make more games and content available for download as well as continue to develop for smartphones, which includes the iPhone.

Capcom also speculates on worldwide sales numbers for its upcoming projects. Note that "Japan" includes all of Asia for the purposes of these estimates.

  • Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (Japan Only) - 3.6 million
  • Dead Rising 2 (Japan, North America, Europe) - 3 million
  • Lost Planet 2 (Japan, North America, Europe) - 2.2 million
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (Worldwide) - 2 million
Buried deep in the plan is word of a potential "new service that leverages the company's strengths by combining existing content with communication systems" in reference to social networks. It could potentially use a "continuous billing model".

On the arcade side, Capcom will continue to consolidate, in line with the shrinking market, to focus on fewer, more efficient arcades.

    * Spawn at least three additional Street Fighter 4 derivatives.

    (Not that I'm complaining.)
