Capcom's annual financial results reveal the developer and publisher's profits dropped 73.1%--2,167 million Yen, or $23.5 million US--in the past year as compared to 2009. Capcom explains that Bionic Commando, Dark Void and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles "underperformed their sales and remained weak" while the postponing of Lost Planet 2 and Super Street Fighter IV to its 2011 financial year didn't help either.

Dark Void.

Current economic woes are naturally also cited as a contributing factor to the poor performance, with Capcom explaining that "the video game market leveled-off due to the prolonged recession with declining customer confidence and decreasing demand." On the arcade front, Capcom's game sales declined though its arcade management arm saw an increase operating income of 162.9% thanks in part to a "profitability improvement strategy" which included closing two "unprofitable" arcades. The industry at large however, Capcom claims, "remained in a downtrend due to the lack of appealing products and the adverse effect of the new influenza or 'swine flu.'" Yesterday Nintendo reported its own drop in income over the last fiscal year, of 22%.

Shame I liked both of these games and still play them now on the PC.

Capcom is my favorite developer right now, I hope they do not have to do any cutbacks because of these figures.

Pst... release Super Street Fighter 4 on the PC...

I am really looking forward to Lost Planet 2 its gona be epic, and most importantly can not wait to see what will be announced at E3?

I agree I really enjoyed bionic commando and dark void, they were nothing spectacular but they were good old classic gaming fun. I recommend them to anyone who is interested.

Sometimes I just don't understand the thought behind some of these strategies that such companies come up with, it's just common sense, the more platforms your games come out on, the more money you make, it's not exactly rocket science... ok with the PC platform I will accept that a later release would be wiser but end of the day as long as it does come out then profit is still profit, in times of recession every little helps surely. MH! bring it out on all platforms and watch the money roll in!.

I'm still wondering why they didn't port SF4 to the Wii, sure I have it on the Xbox 360 and wouldn't be buying it but I would think there were a lot of young Wii gamers that don't own a Xbox 360 or PS3 that would have bought a Wii version.... Of course it can't have motion controls and should use the classic controller or GC controller.
