New Oddworld Canned, Re-Releases Due This Year
"There's a lot of shakeup going on [in the gaming industry] and in that turmoil, we didn't really want to put the Oddworld brand out there in the middle of it," explained Lanning, adding that "we want to really aggressively experiment at this time, and we didn't want to really experiment aggressively with that brand."
Thus far, the environmentally-conscious series has amassed four proper entries across multiple genres--side-scrollers Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus, action-adventure Munch's Oddysee and shooter Stranger's Wrath--the latter two of which were exclusive to the original Xbox and are due to be released on PC via Steam later this year.

They didn't want to do what? I don't really get this explanation. And where's my Oddworld movie, huh?
Still, I can't wait for these re-releases.-

I'd guess that Oddworld Inhabitants did not want to compromise their franchise. The publishers with any interest in making the game probably wanted a piece. A franchise like Oddworld I think is significant enough of a player to understand the power of their franchise. They seem to be in absolutely no rush to become super successful and they don't seem to be in it for the big money either. They seem to be more artists or visionaries than game designers, or corporations really.
I played the first 2 Oddworld games and enjoyed them immensely. I think they got away from what I was expecting with Munch's Odyssey. I didn't play it with as much joy as I did the platformers I had enjoyed on the PS1. With that said Stranger's Wrath wasn't a game I picked up, but it gained great critical success from friends and journalists alike. So although I wasn't a big adopter they seemed to be understanding the switch to 3D a lot easier.
I think once they're able gather everything together for a solid second go at it they'll be able to hit the ground running. Holding their cards so close to their chest however...unless they have a bunch of other projects on the go I wonder how they're able to keep floating when others around are crumbling terribly. I understand their first few games were commercial success', but the money runs out one day!
Wish you guys the best! Bring us more Oddworld goodness!
