Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta Map Screenshots

6
Last week, Bungie revealed the map line-up for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta.

The maps are: Sword Base, Powerhouse, Overlook, and Boneyard. The screenshots show off the numerous graphical improvements made to Reach's all-new engine.

For a lot more information on the four maps including the list of weapons found in each arena, head over to Bungie.net for the full report straight from the developer.

The beta kicks off on May 3 on the Xbox 360 for owners of Halo 3: ODST, which will be used to access the beta, much like Crackdown was used to access the Halo 3 beta.

We're now at the stage in the console generation lifecycle where I wonder how the hell developers squeeze performance out of the hardware. That's essentially a Radeon X1900 with 512 megs of GDDR3 (shared with the rest of the system) inside the 360. Hot shit in 2005, today not so much.

They find ways. Give them the time to design and implement new algorithms and they find ways.

time? it's been 5 years, that's not enough time to optimize on the 360 hardware? pfft

They don't get to constantly redesign and rework their tech from scratch. Quite often, due to deadlines, they must adapt or modify what they've got (i.e. upgrade not overhaul). The overhaul is expensive and time consuming (can take years) but it can deliver amazing improvements. New algorithmic techniques appear faster than people can implement them.

Yeah, Shadow of the Colossus probably wasn't expected to happen at all on the PS2 in its early or mid life days.
