Microsoft Changes MS Point Bundle Amounts

28
Microsoft has quietly changed the bundle packages for MS Points, its online currency for use with Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live.

Previously, points were available in 500 ($6.25), 1000 ($12.50), 2000 ($25.00), and 5000 ($62.50) bundles. Now, gamers can snag the following bundles on his or her Xbox 360 or from the Xbox Live Marketplace website.

  • Xbox LIVE 400 Microsoft Points bundle - $4.99
  • Xbox LIVE 800 Microsoft Points bundle - $9.99
  • Xbox LIVE 1600 Microsoft Points bundle - $19.99
  • Xbox LIVE 4000 Microsoft Points bundle - $49.99

This is a welcome change as it puts the point bundles in line with most DLC prices, which should help reduce the amount of leftover points after buying content.

On the bright side there sometimes are price reductions to be had when buying point cards in shops or online.

Points can have sales/discounts too. I've bought 1600 point cards ($20) for $15 before at Target and on Amazon I picked up a $50 card for $35 once.

This effectively makes anything you buy with points on sale rather than the individual item. You can't sell money for less than its worth. It ultimately allows for more flexible marketing.
