Update 4 [10:20 PDT on 3/31 - CF]: Everything should be back to normal, going by the Xbox.com support page.

Update 3 [18:30 PDT - GL]: The support page on Xbox.com shows a list of lingering issues on the Live service including account management, signing into Games for Windows Live on PC, and a number of payment and billing specific issues. On the plus side, the Xbox Live Operations Blog does report that the original issue with the release of the DLC before the title update was resolved at 11:00.

Update 2: "If you're getting 'communication failure' or 'unable to join session' errors wait a few minutes - we'll have them stomped out shortly," adds Microsoft's e.

Update 1: "The MW2 Title Update is now live," Microsoft's Larry Hryb writes. "It may take a few minutes for everyone worldwide to get it - our apologies for the delay."

Original: As seems to be a growing trend, this morning's launch of an Xbox 360 download has been hit by technical issues, with Microsoft already on the case.

In this case, it's the "Stimulus Package" for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which adds five more maps to Infinity Ward's shooter in exchange for 1200 Microsoft Points / $15. The Xbox 360 is the first platform to receive the add-on and will likewise be first to receive the second add-on, with PC and PlayStation 3 versions of each following later on.

"The Stimulus Package needs a Title Update and it didn't go out properly," Microsoft representative e explained via Twitter. "We're pushing it out now - it won't be long."

The situation should be resolved "within hours," according to Xbox Live director Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, who added: "When I say hours, many of you may have it fixed before then. That's a worst case scenario. Thanks to many of your for your patience."
